The Tudor galleries in the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), London remain favourites for our continuing fascination for Henry VIII, his six wives, his court, and his daughter, Elizabeth I. Six Lives (on the six wives) is the summer NPG, London exhibition for 2024. We draw on this exhibition and other resources to explore the rich pageantry of clothes, jewellery and portraiture of the Tudors.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Explore the magnificent visual portraits from the Tudor Court
- Present the highlights of the NPG, London exhibition Six Lives and the images of the six wives of Henry VIII
- Follow the reign of Elizabeth I through her portraits, and read the symbols and coded messages
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Highlights of the National Portrait Gallery 2024 summer exhibition of Tudor portraits – Six Lives
- Read the portraits of Elizabeth I for the reflection of events of her reign
- Enjoy the rich fabrics, dress and jewels portrayed in the paintings
