Dr. Shaila Akhter has done an MPhil and a PhD in Astrophysics and has around 10 years of teaching experience in University Physics and Astronomy at UNSW. She has conducted extensive physics and astronomy (telescope and planetarium) outreach to all kind of audiences in Sydney, Australian Museum, and many rural areas of Australia, including events such as National science week. She also has served as an international podcaster for Astronomy representing Australia for the first time to the international community through “365 Days of Astronomy Podcast” run by CosmoQuest, in the year of light, each of which reached at least 10K listeners. She has a keen interest on star formation, interstellar medium, and Galactic dynamics and structure in our galaxy, the Milky Way. She has a passionate, supportive, enthusiastic and constructive teaching style. She is easy going and can motivate her students grow interest in the subject matter. In her opinion: "you can reach your dream if you invest your genuine passion and hard work."
