...From the beginning of time humans have dreamt of the magic of flight – a dream that was more urgent in Australia in our attempts to defeat the tyranny of distance. From the 19th century balloonists in the Domain, to Harry Houdini, Smithy, and the Royal Flying Doctors, the skies of our past have been filled with daredevils and braggarts, heroes and casualties, creating ripping yarns and an erratic narrative in connecting us with the world – a narrative that brings us up to 7 December when we can all celebrate International Civil Aviation Day.
