You will be taken from a beginner or hobbyist to a high level of proficiency learning concepts and skills that can be used over and over again in your art journey, developing your drawing ability accurately and efficiently. Be guided through tone, line-work, detailing, perspective and form, making sure you achieve your art goals.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Basics of Sketching: We will introduce the basics of sketching through material and line techniques, sketching exercises and then observational drawing of simple forms such as cubes, spheres, triangular forms and so on.
- Tones and composition: Creating depth through tonal relationships and use of contrast
- Other techniques: Learning various Old Masters and Contemporary Artist’s Drawing techniques
- Application in the real world: Applying skills to other real life subjects and students’ personal artworks.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Draw from observation, confidently and accurately
- Know various techniques in sketching to achieve desired results
- Create realistic drawings of still life objects and other subjects
MATERIALS LIST
- 2b -6b pencil and eraser
- Charcoal pencil and willow charcoal
- A3 sketching paper, white and kraft/brown paper
IMPORTANT: Please arrive to the first class with all the relevant materials. A lack of materials is not just a handicap to you but to the ability to teach. Materials cost is not included in a course fee. In the event of a course being cancelled WEA cannot be held responsible for the purchase of any course materials. We therefore suggest you purchase your materials closer to the time of the course commencing.
