...This course teaches artistic techniques based on the processes of Master Artists, focusing on composition, proportion, and colour theory. Students will practice sketching and painting directly inspired by artists like Streeton, Van Gogh, Monet, Velasquez, Sargent and Sorolla. By the end, students will complete master studies and original works, building a strong foundation in traditional art techniques. Ideal for artists of all levels looking to refine their skills.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Focus on key principles such as composition, proportion, and colour theory.
- Practice sketching and painting through hands-on exercises and master studies.
- Develop technical skills in traditional art methods used by iconic artists.
- Exploring Light and Texture - capture light, shadow, and texture, focusing on techniques such as chiaroscuro and brushstroke variations to bring depth and realism to paintings.
- Create original studies that reflect classical and impressionist styles.
- Gain familiarity with key materials and processes.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Apply key techniques of composition, proportion, and colour theory used by Master Artists to their own artwork.
- Reproduce master studies, demonstrating an understanding of the processes of art
- Use sketching and painting techniques inspired by classical and impressionist styles to create original works of art.
- Analyse and critique their work, refining skills in traditional art methods through continuous practice and feedback.

- Acrylic Paints: the Reeves Acrylic 12ML set is highly recommended (individual tubes of red, blue and yellow, black and white, burnt sienna, Viridian or Emerald Green)
- Water jars
- A4 sketchpad
- 3x A4 Canvas panel
IMPORTANT: Please arrive to the first class with all the relevant materials. A lack of materials is not just a handicap to you but to the ability to teach. Materials cost is not included in a course fee. In the event of a course being cancelled WEA cannot be held responsible for the purchase of any course materials. We therefore suggest you purchase your materials closer to the time of the course commencing.
