- Types of redemption in literature; Defining characteristics; Best literary redemption stories over time
- History of ghost stories; Types of ghost stories and how they suit a Christmas setting; British Christmas ghost stories and Australian equivalents; Best literary Christmas ghost stories over time
- Types of mysteries and how they suit a Christmas setting; Best endings of Christmas mysteries; Best literary Christmas mysteries over time and in different cultures
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify characteristics of redemption stories, ghost stories, and mysteries
- Discuss how a Christmas setting contributes to these genres
- Identify and assess the best examples of Christmas stories
